Kintsugi, which roughly translates as ‘golden journey’, is based on the philosophy that the value of an object is not in its beauty but in its imperfections, and these imperfections are something to celebrate not hide. The ancient Japanese art of Kintsugi is a technique where broken pottery pieces are repaired with gold creating an even stronger, more beautiful piece of art. The workshop allows you to discover the art of Kintsugi in a fun and creative way where you will have the opportunity to create beautiful ceramic pieces to take home.

The Beginners workshop comprises a 2 ½ hour session with an introduction to the background of the Kintsugi technique. You will be given your own personalised toolbox which contains all the items you need for the class. You will have the opportunity to select the pieces of pottery that you would like to work on. The pottery items are then broken by you in a controlled manner with all the necessary safety protocols being followed. You will guided through the repair process, which includes the application of gold that creates the stunning lines.

The 2 ½ hour session usually allows 2 pieces of pottery to be repaired. These unique pieces can be taken home in their personalised craft toolboxes. They are beautiful mementoes of the day which can be used as ornaments or as gifts.
