Pruning and Grafting workshop
Saturday, 25th February, 10am-3pm
This hands on workshop will be lead by Ian Webster,
retired head gardener of the Chatsworth Estate.
In the morning he will lead you through the theory and techniques of grafting
local varieties of heritage apple tree scion wood to modern root stock – thus ensuring
the fruiting tree is true to the heritage apple variety we are trying to propagate.
You will be able to take home a couple of
these trees to look after and plant in your garden.
In the afternoon we will head out to our heritage orchard in the Peak Village
Nature Reserve and learn the best ways to prune and maintain orchard fruit trees.
Both sessions will be hands on and practical. All equipment and resources will be provided.
Feel free to bring your own secateurs and pruning/grafting tools if you have them.
Remember a packed lunch – although there are onsite food venues at Peak Village.
Venue – meet outside Chatsworth Kitchen at Peak Village at 10am.
We should finish up at approximately 3pm. Please wear suitable outdoor footwear / clothing.
Booking is essential
